(This inventory lists more than our failures and sins. It lists our survival techniques - our dysfunctional attempts at living. Step Four also provides for a positive inventory. We list our positive traits and our strengths, which God will transform and use. This is often more difficult than listing our faults)

(We admit God, ourselves, and other human being the exact nature of the wrongs we listed in Step Four. God aids us in this process of becoming vulnerable, and if we ask for his help, he directs us to the right person to confess)

(Like Step Six, it gives us time to recognize and collect our willingness to move on. But unlike Step Six, Step Eight asks us to make a list of the persons we have harmed. As the names and faces of friends, family, enemies, associates, and others come before us, we must be ever vigilant to remember that the program is about us, not them)
